A classic Christmas dessert: Peppermint Bark

Christmas Dessert: Peppermint Bark

Ingredients

- 12 ounces high-quality white chocolate, chopped

- 12 ounces high-quality semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped

- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract

- ¾ cup crushed candy canes or peppermint candies (about 10 regular-sized candy canes)

Instructions:

1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

2. Melt the dark or semi-sweet chocolate: Place the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) or in short intervals in the microwave, stirring frequently until smooth.

3. Once melted, stir in half of the peppermint extract and half of the crushed candy canes. Spread the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, creating an even layer using a spatula. Set it aside to cool and harden for about 30 minutes to an hour at room temperature or in the refrigerator.

4. Melt the white chocolate using the same method as step 2, stirring in the remaining peppermint extract. Once melted, allow the white chocolate to slightly cool for a few minutes.

5. Pour the white chocolate over the cooled dark chocolate layer, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the remaining crushed candy canes on top, gently pressing them into the white chocolate.

6. Refrigerate the bark until completely set, usually for about 1-2 hours.

7. Once set, break the peppermint bark into pieces using your hands or a knife.

8. Store the bark in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Enjoy and share with family and friends during the festive season!

This Peppermint Bark is not only delicious but also makes a wonderful homemade gift for Christmas!
